Abstract

The paper reviews apparent interlinguistic similarities between Belarusian and Polish acronyms, as exemplified by the pair ВНП – валавы нацыянальны прадукт and WNP – Wspólnota Niepodległych Państw. Several groups of Belarusian-Polish acronyms are distinguished according to their form, meaning, spelling and pronunciation. The comparative analysis reveals the presence of a few types of Belarusian acronyms that are formally similar to Polish acronyms. On the other hand meanings and pronunciation of acronyms in two languages can be different.
