Abstract

The article deals with the image of a stranger that appears in a great many works of Maksim Haretski. The image seems to be defined by the influence of symbolism on this Belarusian author. The images of strangers from Haretski’s works can be divided into two categories: 1) women who are the embodiment of the mysteries of life; 2) specific but unknown people with their own stories. They are united not only by the absence of a name or random encounters, but also by the mystery that is hidden in the soul of each character.
