Women's Poetry in Western Belarus

Abstract

The question of Belarusian women in poetry in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century seems an attractive object of study with respect to both East- and West-Belarusian poetry. In Western Belarus women's access to the public sphere seems inspired by the Belarusian idea. Within a period of 20 years the number of poets increased significantly, reaching several tens. Thus, women's poetry or the poetry of women may be viewed as a separate category, since it requires a thorough study from different perspectives, including the social and political ones.
