Abstract

The author has analysed the syntax of 520 newspaper headings (sentences, phrases, quotations) from Gazeta Wyborcza and Nasha Niva representing different syntactic models. The most numerous group is that of two- and three-element phrases and declarative, interrogative and exclamatory clauses. Particular attention is paid to headings of interviews and to intertextuality. Considerable attention is given to the wide use of commonly known lexical units (stock phrases and idioms) as well as references to literary works, songs, fairy tales, proverbs and other means.
