Abstract
The presence of a historical-cultural component in the entries and illustrations of the Dictionary of Belarusian Language by I. Nosovich and Dictionary of the Polish Language by S. Lindе was the result of a general educational-romantic tendency of studying the Slavic peoples’ spiritual heritage. The dictionaries reflected actual historical processes in the Slavic countries and literary languages: I. Nosovich’s dictionary echoed the desire for separation from the bounds of „western Russism” while S. Lindе’s dictionary intended to place the language and the country in a general Slavic context.
