Abstract
The sociolinguistic status of the Kamai village (Postavski district, Vitebsk region of Belarus) is discussed on the basis of materials gathered during field studies in the village in 2011 and 2012. A special place in the article is taken by a description of the history of this village and its inhabitants. The linguistic situation of the Kamai village, the factors which influenced its formation and changes under the influence of historical, social and cultural transformations during the 20th century are also described.
