Abstract

The article deals with the understanding of the national self-determination during the war and the revolutionary events of the first decades of the 20th century in Maksim Goretsky’s and Leonid Andreyev’s short stories. In this period the writers concentrated on the correlation between the problem of self-identification and the tragic circumstances faced by Slavic peoples. In their short stories not only do the writers show the contradictory ideas of the difficult time, but they also look for reasons of the crises and potential ways to solve them.
