Practice and Problems of Memorialization on the Lands of the Uprising of 1863–1864 (Mostowlany and Jalowka)

Abstract

The article deals with problems of introducing the historical figure of Kalinouski in collective memory, its impact on the perception of Belarusians as a nation as well as the problem of providing an adequate analysis for fostering the image of the hero in the national context. Preserving memories of the uprising of 1863-64 with the example of Mostovlyany and Jalowka can be done by various manners, including creating a cross-border tourist route to the places of importance, installing memorial signs, organizing animation events or restoring the manor of the Kalinouski family and transforming it into a museum.
