Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the role of functional pairs “struggle – victory” and “problem – solution” in the structure of 14 short stories by Yan Barshcheuski from the book Zavalnya, Esqire, or Belarus in Fantastic Stories. The conclusions are made that in the author’s work the canonical structure of a fairy tale, in which the presence of one of these pairs is mandatory, is significantly modified. At the level of individual stories, the functional correlation is violated, cases of dual morphological meaning of functions are observed. The author uses a minus technique, in which functions are not implemented but their probability is denoted. At the level of the entire work as a whole, the plot balance, however, is achieved, and in the last story Marvelous Staff a romantic myth is built, in which a succession of fairy-tale elements is reproduced with new metaphorical meanings.
