Abstract

The novel 'Death Dance' by Ludmily Rublevskaya reminds of classic gothic novels, which is visible in the ways it creates the effect of a closed space, the choice of the chronotope, the presence of a typical character, i. e. a villain, mysticism and mysteries as well as in the choice of a person with unstable mentality as the main character. Unlike other authors of gothic novels, the Belarusian writer commonly uses humour and irony. 'Death Dance' is an example of creative rethinking of the genre canon, with external signs of the genre preserved and the internal structure changed.
