Тhe Problem of National Identity in the Story 'The Second God's Commandment' by Milkovsky

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of national self-identification of a person that is presented in the story 'The Second God's Commandment' by Zygmunt Milkovsky (writing under a pseudonym Teodor Tomasz Jeż), one of the Polish writers of the 19th century. The analysis of the literary context made it possible to highlight peculiarities of national self-consciousness of representatives of different social groups inhabiting Lithuania. Particular attention is paid to the ideological orientation of the work, its figurative system and artistic features.
