Abstract
Belarusian emigration to the U.S.A. was discussed in „Nasha Niva” (1907–1914) both in commentaries and in literary works, e.g. poetry. The authors described reasons behind emigration, dangers of separation from the family home, but also material benefits. The objective of most articles was to stop the wave of emigration of Belarusians by showing dangers facing uneducated manual workers who did not speak English or know the law and traditions of their country of destination. The authors believed that Belarusians should work to improve their lives in their homeland. However, not all commentators in „Nasha Niva” saw only the downsides of emigration. Quite a few authors offered an objective look at the issue, including both negative aspects and benefits not only for the financial status of emigrants’ families, but also for the monetary resources of Belarus.
