Abstract
The tale of Niznija Bajduny by Janka Bryl is a literary attempt to present a picture of the western Belarusian village at the beginning of the 20th century by portraying various types of its inhabitants. There are many elements typical of Belarus, including folklore or the regional dialect. The narration is retrospective. As the story reconstructs a world existing only in the memory of the narrator, the plot has strong melancholic overtones. Both the world presented and all characters in this literary work are positive.
