"Ruski" Makisma Hareckiego: Kilka uwag o języku narracji i konstrukcji opowiadania

Abstrakt

Maksim Haretski had a big influence on the development of Belarusian prose of the early twentieth century, among others, by enriching the subject of both war and a new type of hero. The war theme stemmed directly from the experience of the author himself, who in the years 1914–1917 fought on the fronts of World War I. In the short story Russian written in 1915 the author shows the mentality of a peasant, his attachment to the land and lack of skills to adapt to the new reality of war, all seen against the extreme conditions of war. All these factors affect the dramatic decision of the hero and contribute to the tragedy. Even though there is no direct description of combat in the story, the language of the narration makes the topic of war constantly present. Using contrast, not only did the author assess the war negatively, but he also managed to above all present the complexity of the human psyche and the motivation behind certain actions.
