Museums of Vitebsk at the turn of a century: problems and perspectives

Abstract

Vitebsk is a major industrial and cultural centre in Belarus. Museums play an all-important role in representation of the cultural heritage. There are more than one hundred state, civic, school-owned and private museums in the city. This paper looks at how museums represent shared and characteristic features of historical and cultural processes in the city to show the most important results and problems of development of museums in Vitebsk at the turn of the 21st century.
